Same-Sex Wedding Invitations — No Discrimination Whatsoever!

Printing houses can no longer refuse to print same-sex wedding invitations because any kind of discrimination is considered violation of law. In August 2003, Starfish company had to apologize to Tom Butts who had asked them to print his wedding invitations. He was marrying Scot Carter, another man, and the owner of the company could not bring herself to promote the cause of homosexual weddings and had refused to print the invitations. The client filed a case and won and the owner of the company had to apologize.

According to this Ordinance, a person has the right to buy a product or service, irrespective of his sexual inclination. It was found discriminatory of the wedding invitation printing company proprietor's part to deny Butts his same-sex wedding invitation. The case was decided in favor of Butts. On her part, the owner of the Starfish company, agreed to abide by the law to treat all persons with regard and esteem, not giving any consideration to a person's sexual inclination. She regretted her refusal, which was insulting to Butts and promised not to violate Seattle's anti-discrimination law again.
